The Implementation of the Nursing Professional in Treatment Using Equine Therapy: An Integrative Review

Abstract

Introduction: Equine-assisted therapy is a therapeutic method that uses the horse as a mediator. Nursing plays an essential role in promoting the health and well-being of patients. However, there is a scarcity of evidence on the integration of nursing in equine-assisted therapy, highlighting the need for more in-depth investigations. Materials and Methods: This study consists of an integrative literature review on the role of nursing in equine-assisted therapy. Seven articles were selected from a total of 47 identified studies. Data analysis was performed in three stages: pre-analysis, material exploration, and result treatment. Results and Discussions: Equine-assisted therapy is a therapeutic practice that uses the horse as a mediator. Nursing plays a fundamental role in equine-assisted therapy, promoting the health and well-being of patients. The nurse's role includes accurate diagnoses, continuous monitoring, and personalized interventions. Conclusion: The inclusion of nurses in equine-assisted therapy is essential to ensure safe and effective care. Their presence allows for personalized assessments, reducing risks and promoting rehabilitation and well-being. Professional training and interdisciplinary collaboration are essential for effective action.
